Ajnala Police have arrested two drug peddlers, seizing a significant cache of narcotics and illegal firearms during a checkpoint operation. The accused, Sukhraj Singh and Jaskaran Singh, both residents of Jons Mohar village, were apprehended on the spot.

Authorities recovered 1 kg of opium, 25 gm of heroin, four foreign-made pistols with magazines, and 24 cartridges from the accused. A motorcycle used in the operation was also seized.

Police registered a case against the suspects under Sections 18, 21, 25, 29, 61, and 85 of the NDPS Act, as well as Sections 25(8), 54, and 59 of the Arms Act.

According to officials, a police team led by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) had set up a naka (checkpoint) near the newly constructed bridge close to Boparai Baj Singh village. Officers noticed a motorcycle approaching from the side of Khurmanian village. When signalled to stop, the rider attempted to flee, and the pillion rider tried to discard a polythene packet.

The police quickly overpowered both suspects and recovered the contraband. Investigation is ongoing to trace the source of the narcotics and weapons and identify potential links to other criminal networks. Both accused are to be produced before the court for further legal proceedings.
