Cotia – Social media influencer Luís Felipe de Oliveira has been placed in preventive detention after being accused of carrying out a large-scale “love scam.”
According to the Public Ministry of São Paulo, Oliveira caused losses of nearly R$208,000 to a man who believed he was in a romantic relationship with a woman created by Oliveira on social networks and messaging apps.
Prosecutor Renan Mendes Rodríguez filed the complaint, which was received by the 1st Criminal Court of Cotia on March 4, turning Oliveira into a defendant for embezzlement via electronic fraud.
Authorities also obtained an order to freeze Oliveira’s funds up to the amount of financial damage caused to the victim. Investigations revealed that over two years, Oliveira exploited the victim’s emotional vulnerability to solicit bank transfers and payments under various pretexts.
The influencer has a significant social media following, with approximately 2.3 million TikTok followers and multiple Instagram accounts totaling over 1.9 million followers. The Public Ministry noted that Oliveira used this visibility not only for personal gain but also to post content promoting fraudulent tactics.
Oliveira reportedly has a history of virtual scams affecting multiple victims and has been cited in prior incidents of online fraud. He was expelled in 2024 from Rancho do Maia, by Carlinhos Maia, following his controversial online activities.
Authorities continue to investigate, and Oliveira’s defense team had not responded at the time of publication.
