Chidike Watts Charged in Toronto Online Fraud Case

Police link pair to debit card scam targeting victims

by Sophia Bennett

Two Toronto residents are facing dozens of charges after investigators linked them to an alleged online fraud scheme that targeted multiple victims.

According to the Toronto Police Service, the suspects allegedly contacted victims using fake identities. In some cases, they reportedly posed as employees of the Toronto Police Service or representatives of financial institutions to gain the victims’ trust.

Police say the suspects then instructed victims to hand over their physical debit cards to a courier. After the cards were collected and delivered, the suspects allegedly used them to withdraw cash and make purchases.

Investigators believe the scheme took place between May and December 2025 and has been connected to at least 25 incidents.

On Feb. 25, officers executed two search warrants at locations connected to the suspects in Toronto. During the searches, authorities seized several items, including cellphones, laptops, clothing believed to have been worn during the crimes, and gift cards that police say were purchased with stolen funds.

Police arrested Chidike Watts, 20, and Ehinosen Caleb Ehikhuemen, 19. Both face numerous charges related to fraud and theft.

The investigation remains ongoing.
