A Waterbury man was arrested after police said they discovered crack cocaine and other narcotics during a search warrant operation.
The Waterbury Police Department identified the suspect as Carlos Baez, 43, of Waterbury.
Authorities said members of a police task force, working alongside the Connecticut State Police, executed search warrants related to Baez on Feb. 27. The warrants targeted a basement apartment on Fairfax Street.
According to police, officers saw Baez entering a white Honda Accord while they were carrying out the search warrant. Investigators then conducted a traffic stop.
Police said Baez initially refused to exit the vehicle and attempted to flee but was eventually taken into custody.
Authorities also noted that Baez had a full no-contact protective order involving his girlfriend, who was reportedly present at the scene.
During the investigation, officers said they seized approximately 100 grams of crack cocaine, narcotic pills, and about $1,600 in cash believed to be connected to drug activity.
Baez now faces several charges, including possession of narcotics, interfering with an officer, violation of a protective order, illegal operation of a drug factory, possession of a half ounce or more of cocaine, and possession of narcotics with intent to sell.
