A Hartford man has been charged with murder after a woman was found dead inside an apartment on Washington Street on Sunday evening, according to police.
Authorities said Ottahu Holder, 52, faces charges of murder and interfering with police following the death of Linda Anthony, a 75-year-old resident of the apartment.
Officers with the Hartford Police Department responded to 194 Washington St. around 6:58 p.m. after receiving a request for a welfare check on a woman reported to be unconscious and not breathing.
When officers arrived, they encountered a man inside the apartment who allegedly refused to cooperate and attempted to block their entry. Police said they were forced to enter the apartment.
Inside, officers discovered Anthony suffering from severe head trauma. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Hartford Police Department Major Crimes Division and the Hartford Police Department Crime Scene Division responded and took over the investigation.
Holder was taken into custody and transported to the Hartford Police Detention Facility for processing. Authorities said he is being held on a $1 million bond.
