The Jadavpur Police arrested Ravi Bharadwaj, a resident of Bihar, in connection with a shooting incident that occurred at a residence in the Bijoygarh area of Jadavpur, Kolkata. The arrest was carried out on Thursday, October 30, after a police team traveled to Patna.
The incident occurred on Monday evening, October 28, when Bharadwaj allegedly fired at the home of his estranged girlfriend. The bullets missed the victim, and fortunately, no one was killed.
According to police, Bharadwaj had previously lived in Bengaluru, where he ran an event management company and initially met the victim in 2022. During their relationship, the woman discovered that Bharadwaj was married, after which she ended the relationship. Following the breakup, Bharadwaj allegedly harassed and assaulted her multiple times, including an earlier attack in Bengaluru involving a chopper, for which he had been briefly jailed.
Even after the victim returned to Kolkata, Bharadwaj continued to pursue her. On the day of the incident, he went to her Bijoygarh residence armed with a single-shot pistol and opened fire. After fleeing the scene, Bharadwaj remained untraceable for two days.
Police collected information from the victim, CCTV footage, and other leads before tracing him to Patna. He has now been taken into custody, and a case of attempted murder has been registered against him at Jadavpur Police Station.
