ATHENS, Texas — A 38-year-old man has been charged with murder after surveillance footage at an Athens sober living home allegedly showed him dragging what appeared to be a body, according to a Henderson County arrest affidavit.

Law enforcement was called Tuesday evening after family members reported Derris Reynolds missing, last seen on Feb. 25 at the residence.

Family members asked the property owners to review security footage, which they then provided to the Athens Police Department.

Officers said the video captured Nicki Lee Gibby, 38, entering Reynolds’ bedroom and an audible argument between the two. Reynolds was not seen leaving the room. Later footage showed Gibby moving items such as a mop, bucket, and towels, before dragging a long, heavy object wrapped in a tarp—believed to be Reynolds’ body—down a hallway and out a side door.

Police obtained a warrant and arrested Gibby on Wednesday morning. He is booked into the Henderson County Jail on a murder charge with a $1 million bond.
