A joint operation by Manipur Police, CRPF, and Assam Rifles successfully dismantled an inter-state drug smuggling network, resulting in the arrest of two alleged smugglers from Assam and the seizure of contraband drugs valued at over Rs 2 crore.

According to an official report issued on Sunday, the arrested individuals are Rajib Hussain Mazumder from Ranighat, Krishnapur, and Sahar Alom Mazumder from Dubang, both in Silchar, Assam.

The arrests took place on Saturday at Leingangpokpi village, about 15 kilometers from the Jiribam district headquarters along NH-37. Authorities intercepted the suspects while they were carrying contraband drugs in a vehicle.

From their possession, police recovered 50,000 tablets engraved with WY/R, weighing approximately 5.184 kg, including sachets and polythene bags. Additional items seized include a Toyota Fortuner used for transport, three mobile phones, and two Aadhaar cards. All items were confiscated following proper legal procedures.

The suspects were handed over to the relevant police station, and a case has been registered against them under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (Amendment) Act 2023 for further investigation.

This operation highlights the coordinated efforts between Assam and Manipur forces to curb inter-state drug trafficking and disrupt the illicit trade of high-value narcotics.
