Ludhiana, Punjab: The Rural Police, Ludhiana have booked two travel agents, Lakhvir Singh and Reena Rani, for allegedly duping a man of Rs35 lakh under the pretext of sending him abroad through a fake marriage arrangement.
The case was registered following a complaint by Charanjit Singh, a resident of Ghunewal village. According to the complaint, the accused assured him that he could go abroad via a marriage-based scheme, demanding Rs45 lakh in total. Charanjit Singh paid Rs35 lakh in advance, while the remaining Rs10 lakh was to be paid after reaching abroad.
The complainant alleged that the agents arranged a marriage with a woman he did not know. However, after two years, he had neither been sent abroad nor received his money back. Instead, he claimed the accused filed a case against him in court to harass him.
Police stated that the cheating case was registered at Sudhar Police Station. SHO Gurdeep Singh noted that this is the third case against Lakhvir Singh and Reena Rani. Earlier complaints included:
