A 53-year-old Navasota man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a controlled substance in Grimes County, Texas.
Calvin Harris faced the sentence Monday before a jury trial, handed down by 12th District Judge David Moorman based on a plea agreement negotiated by Assistant District Attorney Tammy Thomas.
The case began on March 11, 2025, when Harris was stopped by a Navasota Police officer for traveling on the wrong side of the road. Officers discovered he had two active arrest warrants, including a pending drug charge in Waller County, and found methamphetamine during a search.
Harris was arrested again on January 14, 2026, while out on bond for a theft at a local business. He attempted to flee and discard evidence before being apprehended. With numerous prior felony convictions, including two robbery convictions, he qualified for habitual offender sentencing.
District Attorney Andria Bender stated that Harris had been committing violent crimes and thefts for years, draining local law enforcement resources, and that the sentence would help protect the community.
Harris is currently held at the Grimes County Jail, awaiting transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
