In a major crackdown on narcotics, the Special Crime Unit (SCU), Bhubaneswar-Cuttack arrested three individuals on Friday for possession of 370 grams of brown sugar, estimated to be worth Rs 37 Lakh.
The arrested have been identified as Sameer Khan alias Muna or Mohan (44) of Jhadeswar, Sk. Irsad Mohammad alias Surya (23) of Rajpur Basti, and Munaf Khan alias Mona (22), also from Rajpur Basti. All three fall under the jurisdiction of Jaleswar police station in Balasore district.
The arrests were made following coordinated intelligence inputs that enabled the SCU to conduct a surveillance operation targeting the illicit brown sugar trade in Bhubaneswar. The operation culminated in a tactical interception near Shyama Shyam Dham Road, close to Doordarshan Kendra under Saheed Nagar police station, where the suspects were allegedly conducting drug transactions.
During the operation, the SCU seized 370 grams of brown sugar, and the suspects were apprehended without resistance. They are currently being interrogated to uncover further details about their drug trafficking network and operations.
Police have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any illegal narcotics activity to help curb the growing menace of drug trafficking in the region.
