The Jeypore Town Police arrested two individuals on Monday evening for possession of a banned substance and recovered 2.83 grams of brown sugar.
The accused have been identified as Sanjib Kumar Nayak (40) and Khogen Tanti (19), both residents of Jeypore town. They were produced in court following the seizure.
According to IIC Ullas Kumar Rout, the arrest followed specific intelligence inputs indicating the duo were carrying contraband. A raid was conducted, resulting in the recovery of the brown sugar along with two mobile phones from the accused.
Police stated that a further investigation is underway to determine whether the arrested individuals are linked to a larger drug syndicate or if the narcotics were intended for personal use. “All angles will be examined to establish the forward and backward linkages of drug trafficking, including its source and network,” said Rout.
