Tatyana McClerkin Charged in TennCare Fraud Case

Caregiver accused of fraudulent time records

by Sophia Bennett

A Carroll County caregiver is facing criminal charges following an investigation into alleged fraud involving Tennessee’s Medicaid program, TennCare.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, special agents with its Medicaid Fraud Control Division began investigating the case in March 2025 after receiving a fraud referral from the TennCare Office of Program Integrity. The referral alleged that a paid caregiver had submitted false time records for in-home care services.

During the investigation, agents determined that Tatyana McClerkin, born April 20, 2000, had worked as an in-home caregiver between March 2024 and August 2024. Authorities allege that during that time she submitted fraudulent time sheets claiming payment for hours she did not actually work.

Investigators also allege that McClerkin used the signature of a TennCare member without permission while submitting the documentation.

In August 2025, agents obtained an arrest warrant charging McClerkin with TennCare fraud and identity theft. She was booked into the Carroll County Jail on Tuesday and later released after posting a $2,500 bond.

Officials said the charges remain accusations at this stage. McClerkin is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation noted that its Medicaid Fraud Control Division receives the majority of its funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through a federal grant, with the remaining portion funded by the State of Tennessee.
