A Houston man accused of shooting several law enforcement officers during a violent encounter in 2023 has been sentenced to life in prison.
Terran Green, 36, was found guilty of aggravated assault of a public servant on Feb. 26. A court sentenced him to life in prison on Wednesday for the attack, which involved multiple officers during a prolonged manhunt in the Houston area.
The case began in August 2023 when authorities issued a Blue Alert for Green after he allegedly shot Harris County Deputy Joseph Anderson during a routine traffic stop in northeast Harris County. Investigators said the incident occurred on Homestead Road near the Eastex Freeway.
According to authorities, Green opened fire on the deputy and then fled the scene, triggering an extensive manhunt that lasted nearly 24 hours.
During the search, law enforcement officers located a blue Ford Escape connected to Green parked inside an apartment garage on Airtex Avenue, roughly 10 miles from where the shooting occurred.
Officials issued a Blue Alert for Green, a public warning used when a suspect is wanted for killing or seriously injuring a law enforcement officer. The alert is sent to mobile devices to help authorities locate the suspect quickly.
The search eventually led officers to a rental home on Silhouette Ridge in Humble, where Green barricaded himself inside. Law enforcement surrounded the property, leading to a tense standoff that lasted approximately five hours.
During the confrontation, authorities said Green fired additional shots, injuring two Deputy U.S. Marshals and an officer assigned to the Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force.
The standoff ended around 11:45 p.m. when Green surrendered to officers and was taken into custody.
Prosecutors initially charged Green with aggravated assault against a public servant and four counts of attempted capital murder of a police officer. He was ultimately convicted of aggravated assault of a public servant, while the remaining four charges were later dropped.
