A 36-year-old Luverne man was arrested in Sheldon, Minnesota, on multiple drug and DUI charges following a traffic stop.
According to the Sheldon Police Department, Ethan James Richards was stopped around 5:25 p.m. on Feb. 28 while driving a 2018 Subaru Legacy for an equipment violation on Second Avenue near Sixth Street.
Officers observed that Richards had bloodshot and watery eyes, impaired balance, and smelled of burnt methamphetamine. He displayed rapid heart rate visible through his shirt and admitted to using methamphetamine and marijuana. Richards also confirmed there was marijuana in his vehicle.
A search of the vehicle revealed meth residue on a scale, marijuana, a marijuana pipe, and assorted baggies, leading to charges of:
First-offense operating while under the influence (DUI)
Possession of a controlled substance — methamphetamine, third or subsequent offense
Possession of a controlled substance — marijuana, third or subsequent offense
Possession of drug paraphernalia
Richards was taken into custody and is facing legal proceedings for these offenses.
