Bodu Paleja, a 39-year-old former national-level weightlifter, has been arrested in connection with a Rs70,000 cyber fraud case in Surat.

Paleja, currently employed as a contractual TB supervisor at the Taluka Health Centre in Junagadh, had previously represented India in a weightlifting championship at the age of 16. He also worked part-time with a private finance company.

According to DCP Bishakha Jain, Paleja holds two credit cards — one from Bank of Baroda and another from ICICI Bank. The accused allegedly defrauded a Surat-based victim of Rs70,000 after the victim downloaded an APK file linked to a fake RTO challan.

Police revealed that Paleja used the defrauded money to clear dues on his two credit cards. Investigations are ongoing to determine whether he was involved in any other similar fraudulent transactions.
