In a major operation against organised crime, the Rajasthan Police arrested a 35-year-old man allegedly involved in a marriage scam and interstate human trafficking network.
The accused, Mahavir Suthar, a resident of Uniyara in Tonk district, was apprehended by the Crime Branch after a trap was laid at Bharat Mata Circle in Jaipur’s Mansarovar area. He was carrying a reward of Rs10,000 and had reportedly been absconding by frequently changing his identity.
Police investigations revealed that Suthar was allegedly part of an organised gang engaged in arranging fake marriages and trafficking women across state lines. The racket reportedly targeted unsuspecting men, extracting large sums of money under the guise of marriage arrangements, and later resorting to fraud and blackmail.
Officials said he played a key role in cheating a Balotra resident of Rs2.50 lakh in September 2023 through a fraudulent marriage setup. The accused is believed to have worked alongside alleged associates Bhanwarlal Sharma and Rahmat Khan in coordinating trafficking, financial fraud, and coercion.
Preliminary findings indicate that the network extended beyond Rajasthan to states such as West Bengal, Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand. Authorities are now probing the broader interstate links and possible additional victims.
Police stated that further interrogation is underway to dismantle the entire network and trace the full extent of the human trafficking and marriage fraud operations.
