A Chicago man accused of leading Hinsdale police on a high-speed chase early Tuesday morning will remain in jail, officials said.
Claude Miles, 28, appeared in court charged with two counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding and one count of possession of burglary tools, according to the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
Prosecutors said a patrolling Hinsdale officer spotted a 2013 Ford Fiesta driving without a rear license plate around 2 a.m. in the area of Agden Avenue and Pasquinelli Drive. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, Miles allegedly fled, reaching 73 mph in a 35-mph zone. The officer turned off his lights but continued following the vehicle.
The pursuit continued through Downers Grove and Oak Brook, where officers took over near 31st Street. Despite driving through a red light and having the vehicle’s tires spiked, Miles reportedly continued driving on the opposite side of the road, crossing IL-Route 83, before stopping near Jorie Plaza.
Miles was taken into custody without incident. A search of the vehicle revealed a flathead screwdriver and hammer reported stolen from Chicago on Monday, Feb. 16.
The judge ordered Miles held pending the state’s motion to revoke pretrial release on a pending burglary and retail theft case, with a hearing scheduled for Wednesday.
