by Ananya Mehta

In a major anti-corruption crackdown, the CB-CID arrested Padmanabhan, a lawyer practising at the Kancheepuram court, in connection with a motor accident compensation scam. The investigation was initiated by the Madras High Court’s Anti-Corruption Wing.

According to officials, Padmanabhan colluded with government hospital staff and police officers from the traffic investigation wing to manipulate motor accident claims. He allegedly presented impersonators in court as accident victims or their family members during trial proceedings and Lok Adalat sessions to fraudulently secure compensation.

Multiple complaints received by the high court indicated that Padmanabhan had been using forged documents, impersonation, and other irregular methods to obtain compensation from insurance companies, causing losses exceeding Rs 12 lakh. Investigations revealed that these practices had been ongoing for the past four years.

Following a thorough probe, the Kancheepuram CB-CID registered a formal case and established Padmanabhan’s involvement in multiple fraudulent activities, including misappropriation of compensation amounts, forgery, and impersonation. The accused has been taken into custody and further investigation is underway.
