A 36-year-old man, Wazid Khan, has been arrested in northeast Delhi for allegedly killing his 12-year-old stepson, authorities said Saturday. The incident reportedly stemmed from disputes over Khan’s relationship with the boy’s mother.
Officials stated that Khan, a resident of Shastri Park, was taken into custody following extended questioning. Relatives told reporters that the boy’s mother had married Khan in 2020, a year after her first husband’s death. Tensions in the household reportedly increased after her children from the first marriage returned from a hostel.
“During questioning, the accused admitted to having ongoing disputes related to his relationship with the mother of the deceased,” a senior police officer said. The arrest came a day after the Class 7 student was found dead with severe injuries near the Shastri Park chowk loop. Police received an alert around 9:50 am on Friday and rushed the boy to Jag Pravesh Chandra Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The child sustained multiple injuries, including wounds on the head and eyes, indicating a brutal assault, officials said. According to the police, the boy had gone out to play Thursday evening after returning from school but never returned home. Family members searched for him through the night.
Investigators also noted that Khan, who works as an e-rickshaw driver, had dropped the boy and his younger brother at home around 6:30 pm Thursday. A case under Section 103(1) has been registered.
