Prayagraj police have registered an FIR against Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati and his disciple Mukundanand Brahmachari following allegations of sexual abuse involving two individuals, including a minor. The action comes after a directive from the Special Judge (POCSO Act), Prayagraj, based on a petition filed by Ashutosh Brahmachari Maharaj and others.
Saraswati, speaking to the media, stated he would not oppose arrest, asserting that three entities—the public, his conscience, and the Supreme Court—would ultimately determine the truth. He claimed all three have “given him clean chits” and called the allegations a “fabricated story.”
The FIR alleges that Saraswati and his disciple, posing as religious preceptors, sexually assaulted the complainants multiple times over the past year under the guise of “guru seva” and misusing religious authority. The incidents were reportedly linked to a gurukul and religious congregations, including the recently concluded Magh Mela in Prayagraj.
Saraswati dismissed the claims, saying the individuals in question were never enrolled in his gurukul and attended a school in Hardoi, according to their mark sheets. Addressing alleged evidence, such as a purported CD, he questioned why it had not been made public.
Authorities noted that the complaint included written representations submitted earlier to police and senior officials, but no action was taken until the court ordered registration of the FIR. Following this, Jhunsi Police Station filed the report late Saturday night.
The swami recently drew media attention during the Magh Mela after a confrontation with organizers, alleging obstruction in performing rituals on Mauni Amavasya.
Police investigations are ongoing as the case develops.
