The Rajasthan Crime Branch on Wednesday arrested fugitive Bhanwarlal Sharma, accused of running an interstate marriage racket that trafficked girls and women while extorting lakhs of rupees from men in western Rajasthan.
Police said Sharma ran an organized network that brought economically vulnerable girls from Bengal”,”India”], Assam”], [“place”,”Bihar”,”India”], Uttar Pradesh”], and Jharkhand to Rajasthan under the pretext of marriage or employment.
The victims were then “married” to men in border districts of western Rajasthan for large sums of money. After a short period, the gang allegedly extorted additional funds by threatening to implicate the men in rape cases.
Sharma reportedly operated this network for several years and has a criminal history dating back to 2005. Cases are registered against him at multiple police stations, including Sanganer Sadar, Sadar Jaipur, Shyam Nagar, Gandhi Nagar Ajmer, Kekri City, and Gida (Balotra), on charges of kidnapping, extortion, fraud, and violations under the Arms Act.
Authorities are continuing investigations to identify other victims and dismantle the gang’s network.
