A 35-year-old woman, Shalyn Perry, was arrested Friday after allegedly transferring money from a stolen cellphone into her own account, according to police.
Authorities received a report that a cellphone had been stolen at Wyoming Downs. The 43-year-old owner told officers that more than $1,300 had been transferred from his account to several other accounts.
Investigators determined that one of the recipient accounts was linked to Perry. Later that day, officers contacted her in connection with a separate shoplifting incident at Walmart, where she and a 26-year-old woman were accused of skip-scanning approximately $300 worth of merchandise.
Police traced the stolen phone to a room associated with Perry. Inside, they reportedly found a CashApp card tied to her account, which had received some of the transferred funds.
Perry was arrested on a felony theft charge and also cited for shoplifting. The investigation remains ongoing.
