Police in Bikramganj have arrested four individuals in connection with an alleged human trafficking racket targeting poor families through fraudulent marriage promises.
The arrested include:
Nirmal Lal, resident of Sawai Pur, Bhilwara district, Rajasthan
Ratanlal, Nirmal Lal’s father
Sanjay Sah, resident of Simaria
Ruby Devi, Sanjay Sah’s wife
Police recovered Rs20,000 from the middleman couple’s possession.
Case Details
The victim, Shivani Kumari, was married to Nirmal Lal under promises that her family would receive money and that she would stay in Bihar. After the ceremony, attempts were allegedly made to forcibly take her to Rajasthan, which she resisted.
The incident came to light when a police patrol team noticed a scuffle near Tenduni Chowk, where the young woman was being forcibly dragged. A complaint was lodged by Shivani, and a case was registered against six individuals. Four arrests have been made so far, and police are working to apprehend the remaining accused.
Investigation
Bikramganj SDPO Sindhu Shekhar Singh said the matter appears linked to human trafficking, with poor girls in Bihar allegedly lured by promises of marriage to men from Rajasthan and Haryana. Authorities are investigating potential exploitation after marriage.
Police records indicate that nearly two dozen similar cases have been reported in the past two years across Rohtas and Kaimur districts, often connected to gangs from Rajasthan and Haryana. These cases reflect ongoing concerns about gender imbalance and bride demand in neighboring states.
