Police in Kochi have arrested two men in connection with a Rs20 lakh fraud involving a fake lease agreement. The accused are Ajil Sebastian, 31, of Njarackal, and Arjun C L, 33, of Mulavukadu. Other alleged conspirators are still at large.
According to police, the complainant, a 41-year-old woman, was led to believe that the accused owned a flat in the city available for lease. The accused sent her photos of apartment number 15 at Green Vistas Prakrriti.
On December 11, she was made to sign a lease agreement and paid Rs20 lakh through multiple transfers. She began staying in the apartment until February 3, when the real owners discovered the fraud and asked her to vacate.
The arrested men have allegedly been involved in multiple cheating cases. They were produced in court and remanded to judicial custody. Authorities are investigating to trace additional accomplices and determine the full extent of the scam, as several victims are believed to have been duped in similar schemes.
