JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. — A 46-year-old man was taken into custody earlier this month following a coordinated narcotics operation in Birmingham.
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, members of the Vice and Narcotics Division, along with the Jefferson County SNET Team and MACC Detectives, executed arrest warrants on Feb. 3, 2026, in the 3000 block of Wenonah Park Road SW in Birmingham.
Authorities identified the suspect as Vernon Lamont Christon. Deputies said Christon attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended without incident and transported to the Jefferson County Jail.
Christon faces multiple charges, including trafficking cocaine, trafficking MDMA, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
Sheriff Mark Pettway said the suspect had been evading law enforcement for some time.
“This suspect has been eluding law enforcement for some time now,” Pettway said. “I am impressed with the patience of our specialized units and their collaborative efforts to pursue him and get dangerous drugs and a weapon from the streets of Jefferson County.”
During the operation, deputies reported seizing 48 grams of powder cocaine, 4 grams of crack cocaine, 5 grams of marijuana, 46.5 grams of MDMA, 5.4 grams of methamphetamine and five Suboxone strips. Authorities also confiscated an FN 508 9mm pistol.
The investigation remains ongoing, and officials said additional charges are possible. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office at 205-325-1450 or Crime Stoppers at 205-254-7777.
