Laxmibai Nagar, Delhi: The Crime Branch on Saturday arrested a repeat offender, Chintu alias Chintti Verma, with over 100 grams of brown sugar near the railway goods yard. The seized contraband is valued at approximately Rs 11.5 lakh in the international market.
According to Additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya, the accused attempted to flee after spotting the police but was caught following a brief chase. The operation was part of an ongoing crackdown on the illegal narcotics trade in the area.
Police said Verma was seen emerging from between parked goods trains, raising suspicion. A search recovered 102.76 grams of brown sugar and a mobile phone.
Investigations revealed that Chintu Verma is a repeat offender, already named in nine previous cases, including five under the NDPS Act. During preliminary questioning, he admitted to purchasing drugs at low prices and selling them at higher rates to addicts in the city for profit.
A case has been registered under Sections 8 and 21 of the NDPS Act at the Crime Branch police station.
