BATON ROUGE, La. — Ian Seghers, 35, is behind bars in Baton Rouge after being arrested in connection with the death of his stepfather, Walter Keith Rowland, the Baton Rouge Police Department (BRPD) reported.
Rowland was reported missing on March 12, 2025. Detectives determined that he had been murdered and identified Seghers as the primary suspect. He was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on one count of first-degree murder.
Seghers was previously taken into custody by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, on March 22, 2025, for unrelated charges and was extradited to St. Tammany Parish. He was released earlier this week from St. Tammany Parish before being transported back to Baton Rouge in connection with the murder warrant.
Authorities said the investigation into Rowland’s death is ongoing.
