LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office has announced an arrest following an investigation into the illegal sale of fraudulent temporary vehicle tags advertised on Facebook Marketplace.
According to deputies, undercover officers responded to an online listing offering temporary vehicle tags for sale in West Louisville. Investigators arranged a controlled purchase through the social media platform and identified the suspect as Terrance Whitehead.
Deputies coordinated a meeting to buy two temporary tags. When officers attempted to take Whitehead into custody, he fled on foot but was quickly apprehended and arrested without further incident.
Investigators determined that one of the tags was fraudulent, while the second was a duplicate of a legitimate temporary vehicle tag. Whitehead told detectives the tags were obtained from an uncle who allegedly worked at a dealership, a claim authorities say was false.
Whitehead was booked into Metro Corrections and charged with stealing, producing, copying, or illegally acquiring a temporary tag, fleeing and evading police, and second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument.
Officials also noted that Whitehead had been charged in a similar case involving 25 temporary vehicle tags, with related arrests occurring on Sept. 29, Jan. 25, and again on Feb. 3.
