In a significant blow to drug trafficking, Delhi Police arrested two individuals for attempting to deliver heroin worth Rs 5 crore in the Gulabi Bagh area of the city.
The accused were identified as Ambe alias Sonia (34) and Chandan Gupta (55). Acting on a confidential tip-off, police teams intercepted the duo during a planned operation and recovered 1.058 kilograms of high-grade heroin from their possession.
Police officials said Sonia had been actively involved in the narcotics trade for several years. Her associate, Chandan Gupta, an auto-rickshaw driver with a criminal background, allegedly played the role of transporter in the operation.
Investigations revealed that the seized heroin was procured from a supplier identified as Rahul, and the consignment was meant to be delivered in the Trans-Yamuna region. Police are conducting raids to trace the absconding supplier and dismantle the wider drug network.
Further investigation in the case is underway.
