Former Ludowici Clerk Tina Skipper Arrested

Ex-city employee faces felony theft charge

by Sophia Bennett

A former Ludowici city clerk has been arrested on theft-related charges, according to booking records.

City Attorney Luke Moses said Tina Skipper, who previously served as the city clerk, was terminated from her position on Nov. 20 after allegedly depositing city funds into her personal bank account. Moses stated that Skipper reimbursed the City of Ludowici $10,373.62 before leaving her job.

The Long County Sheriff’s Office investigated the matter and requested assistance from the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, according to Moses. Skipper was arrested Tuesday and is facing a charge of felony theft by taking, based on records from the Long County Sheriff’s Office.

Moses did not confirm whether the felony charge is directly connected to the alleged misuse of city funds. WSAV reported it has contacted the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office for additional details.

The city attorney said the City of Ludowici is cooperating fully with the investigation. Whitney McGovern has since been appointed interim city clerk.

Authorities emphasized that the charge is an allegation, and Skipper is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
