In a shocking case of domestic violence, Farooq, a 35-year-old cook from Garhi Daulat village in Shamli district, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife Tahira (32) and their two minor daughters, Afreen (14) and Sahreen (7). The bodies were reportedly buried inside the family home.
Police revealed that the crime occurred on the night of December 10 after a heated dispute over household expenses and Tahira’s decision to visit her parental home without wearing a burqa. According to SP Narendra Pratap Singh, enraged by her actions, Farooq allegedly shot Tahira and then killed their daughters when they witnessed the act.
The case came to light when Farooq’s father raised an alarm after the family had been missing for nearly six days. Upon questioning, Farooq initially misled his father about their whereabouts, claiming they were staying elsewhere. Suspicious, his father contacted the police, leading to Farooq’s arrest.
During interrogation, Farooq allegedly confessed to the murders. Police then conducted a search inside the home, recovering the bodies of Tahira and the two daughters. Investigations also revealed that Farooq had studied only up to Class 5 in a madrasa.
Tahira’s family stated that Farooq had been harassing her for a long time. Panchayats were held multiple times to resolve disputes, but social pressures forced the family to send her back to Farooq. A case of murder has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
