The suspended deputy dean of Sion Hospital, Dr Rakesh Verma, along with three others, has been booked for cheating after allegedly siphoning Rs 70 lakh from a medical practitioner. The complaint was lodged by Dr Ramachandra Shukla, who claimed Dr Verma had promised an MBBS seat for his daughter under the management quota.
According to police, Dr Shukla’s daughter had scored 60% in HSC and was seeking admission in 2020. Dr Verma, then the deputy dean, assured the family of admission to Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College and General Hospital.
The complainant alleged that despite paying Rs 70 lakh, his daughter was not admitted, and online lectures had video turned off for four months in 2021. When Shukla followed up with the college, he discovered that his daughter had not been enrolled for the course.
The Sion Police confirmed that this is the sixth cheating case registered against Dr Verma, highlighting a recurring pattern of fraudulent activity. Investigations are ongoing to determine the involvement of the three other accused in the scam.
