The Gharinda police have arrested two drug peddlers allegedly involved in cross-border drug smuggling using drones and seized over one kilogram of heroin from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Sukhraj Singh, a resident of Burj village under the Sarai Amanat Khan police station, and Amritpal Singh, a resident of Kalas village under the Khemkaran police station, both in Tarn Taran district.

According to police, a patrol team was conducting routine surveillance in the border village of Rajatal when they received a tip-off that the duo was involved in smuggling contraband and weapons from across the international border using drones. The suspects were allegedly supplying the illegal consignments to different parts of Punjab.

The informer further alerted police that the accused were travelling from Rajatal towards Nausherha Dhalla Road to deliver a drug consignment. Acting swiftly, the police team laid a trap and intercepted the suspects near Bhaini Rajputa village, where they were taken into custody.

During a search, officers recovered more than 1 kg of heroin. A case has been registered against both accused under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Further investigation is underway to trace their cross-border links and identify other members of the smuggling network.
