Nurpur/Zirakpur: The Indora police, under the Nurpur police district, on Thursday arrested proclaimed offender Manish Kumar, wanted in a drug smuggling case, from Zirakpur, Punjab.
Manish Kumar, a resident of Kotla Mangwal village in Indora, had previously been arrested in December 2019 in a drug peddling case. A case under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered against him. After securing bail, he disappeared and failed to appear during trial proceedings. Consequently, the court declared him a proclaimed offender in January last year.
Acting on specific intelligence, a PO cell team of Nurpur police, including constables Ramesh Kumar and Sandeep Kumar, traced him to Zirakpur. They conducted a raid and successfully arrested Manish Kumar.
Nurpur SP Kulbhushan Verma said the accused underwent a medical examination before being produced before the Judicial Magistrate (First Class) on Friday. He has been remanded to judicial custody.
Meanwhile, police conducted raids near the Chakki rivulet in Kandwal, impounding two JCB machines, four tippers, and two tractor-trailers. SP Verma added that the crackdown on the drug mafia and illegal mining will continue in the coming days.
