Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Police have arrested five men suspected of murdering a Bihar family of three in Chennai. The victims were a father, mother, and their two-year-old son.
The accused were identified as Sikander (33), Ravindranath (45), Narendra Kumar (45), and R Vikas (24), all originally from Bihar. Authorities recovered the body of the child in the Madhyakailash area near Adyar on Wednesday. The father’s body had been found stuffed into a gunny bag on a roadside in Adyar on Monday, while police are still tracing the mother’s body, believed to be in Perungudi.
Investigators noted that CCTV footage captured two men on a two-wheeler dumping the gunny bag. Preliminary police inquiries suggest that the incident involved sexual assault, during which the father tried to intervene, leading to the killing of all three family members.
The victims had recently moved to Chennai, and the motive behind the murders remains under investigation.
The crime has sparked political outrage ahead of the assembly elections. AIADMK chief Edappadi Palaniswami condemned the act as “the height of brutality,” while former BJP state president K Annamalai criticized the DMK government for lawlessness and poor public safety.
A DMK spokesperson said the party regretted the incident, noting that police have arrested the accused and swift legal action would follow.
