Balasore, Odisha: Odisha Vigilance officials arrested Subal Kumar Sahu today for allegedly embezzling Rs 19,80,255 from crop insurance funds.
Sahu, the former Secretary of Dahunda Service Co-operative Society under Bhogarai Block in Balasore district, was dismissed from service before his arrest. He is accused of misappropriating government funds during the 2014-15 financial year by manipulating official records and extending crop insurance benefits to ineligible society members.
The investigation, conducted by Odisha Vigilance, led to Sahu’s arrest and subsequent forwarding to the Special Judge, Vigilance, Balasore. The case has been registered as Balasore Vigilance PS Case No. 03/2026 under Section 13(2) read with 13(1)(a) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Authorities said the probe is ongoing to uncover further details and identify any other parties involved. The case highlights serious irregularities in the implementation of government crop insurance schemes at the cooperative level.
Vigilance officials stressed the need for strict action against the misuse of public funds intended for farmer welfare. Measures are also being planned to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to prevent similar embezzlement incidents in cooperative societies across the state.
