CLEVELAND — Quiana Thompson, a Cuyahoga County corrections officer arrested last year for allegedly smuggling drugs into the county jail, now faces federal charges.
Thompson, 32, was initially arrested by county deputies last April after investigators observed her picking up an envelope containing suspected methamphetamine from a Cleveland woman.
According to authorities, Thompson admitted the drugs were intended for the woman’s son, an inmate at the county jail. Investigators also learned that Thompson had been paid to smuggle drugs into the facility through recorded jailhouse phone calls.
Following her arrest, Thompson was placed on administrative leave. A Cuyahoga County spokesperson confirmed she is now on unpaid leave.
Court records show Thompson faces a federal charge of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. At a hearing on Tuesday, a judge placed her under house arrest pending further proceedings.
