In a series of major anti-narcotics operations, Kochi city police seized significant quantities of synthetic drugs and charas from different parts of the city on Thursday, arresting four persons involved in drug trafficking.
Police seized 105.95 grams of methamphetamine from Nithin (37), a native of Chavakkad in Thrissur district, at Cheranalloor. According to investigators, Nithin was allegedly involved in trafficking large quantities of synthetic drugs from Bengaluru using courier services and selling them in Ernakulam.
In another operation at Ravipuram, police seized 12.9 grams of MDMA and arrested Anshid (29) from Perambra, Kozhikode, and Ameer (42) from Velam, Kozhikode. Police said Ameer, who runs a lodge in Ravipuram, along with his associate Anshid, was allegedly operating an MDMA distribution network centred around the lodge.
The operations were carried out by the Kochi DANSAF team under the leadership of Narcotic Cell Assistant Commissioner K A Abdul Salam, following directives from Kochi City Police Commissioner Putta Vimaladitya.
Meanwhile, in a separate case on Wednesday, city police seized 140.03 grams of charas near Pachalam Peter Corea Road and arrested Arfeen Vincent (20), a resident of Pachalam in Ernakulam district. He was allegedly caught while trafficking charas from Himachal Pradesh for sale among youths in the city.
Police said further investigation is underway to identify accomplices and trace the wider supply network linked to the accused.
