CANTONMENT, Fla. — A routine traffic stop in Escambia County last week led to the arrest of John Duncan McLean, 35, of Cantonment, on charges of first-degree felony fentanyl trafficking and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Escambia County deputies reported that McLean was driving a blue Dodge Dart with an Alabama license plate that had been reported stolen. When deputies activated emergency lights, McLean turned into a residential driveway on Broussard Street in an apparent attempt to avoid law enforcement.
McLean and passenger 37-year-old Kristopher Robin Nix of Pensacola were removed from the vehicle. Deputies found a plastic bag containing a white powdery substance where Nix had been seated. A probable cause search of the car uncovered a black sunglass bag holding three syringes and a plastic bag containing approximately 8.7 grams of a powder that field-tested positive for fentanyl.
McLean denied knowledge of the drugs, claiming the vehicle belonged to his “boss.” A passenger reportedly told deputies that McLean began throwing items around the car when he saw the patrol unit approaching. The homeowner at the Broussard Street residence confirmed she did not know the men and had the vehicle towed from her property.
Both McLean and Nix remain in Escambia County Jail without bond.
