EL PASO, Texas — Two teenagers have been arrested and charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of a 39-year-old man in far East El Paso, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (EPCSO).

Deputies were dispatched shortly before 2:50 a.m. on Nov. 14 to the 14100 block of Fortuna after receiving reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, deputies found Jose Sanchez Garcia, 39, suffering from a gunshot wound to the torso.

Sanchez Garcia was transported to a local hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries on Dec. 16, EPCSO confirmed.

Following a lengthy investigation led by the EPCSO Major Crimes Unit in collaboration with the Texas Rangers, two suspects were identified and taken into custody. Authorities said Giovanni Alberto Gutierrez and Gael Adrian Rodriguez, both 17, have each been charged with murder.

According to EPCSO, both suspects are being held without bond.

Sheriff Oscar Ugarte praised the collaborative effort behind the investigation, stating, “Thank you to our Major Crimes Unit and the Texas Rangers for their collaboration on this investigation. We will continue working to ensure justice is served and offenders are held accountable.”
