In a significant cybercrime operation, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested Lalrampana, a resident of Aizawl, Mizoram, for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor and uploading videos of the act online.
The CBI traced the accused through cyber intelligence, forensic analysis, and international cooperation. Following the registration of the case on May 30, the agency located Lalrampana and conducted a raid on June 4, seizing incriminating digital devices from his premises.
Authorities allege that Lalrampana was actively creating, storing, and distributing Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM), violating multiple provisions of law. Forensic examination revealed a substantial volume of abusive content, which was cross-verified with Interpol’s International Child Sexual Exploitation (ICSE) database and Google’s Cyber Tipline Reports, coordinated through the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), Ministry of Home Affairs.
The probe further established that the accused had threatened and exploited the child to produce abusive content. Notably, the case was initiated suo motu by the CBI, as neither the victim nor the family had approached law enforcement prior to the agency’s intervention.
CBI officials emphasized vigilance and the importance of reporting suspicious online activity to prevent the spread of CSAM.
