The Delhi Police Crime Branch has arrested the alleged kingpin of an interstate drug syndicate involved in smuggling hybrid ganja into India through international cargo consignments routed via Mumbai and Delhi airports.
The accused was identified as Zamjith, also known as Samjhu (38), a native of Kozhikode, Kerala, who reportedly operated the syndicate from Thailand, officials said on Friday.
Authorities noted that three members of the syndicate had already been apprehended in July this year, and the arrest of Zamjith is considered a major breakthrough in curbing interstate and international drug trafficking.
The police are continuing their investigation to trace the syndicate’s operations and other accomplices, and to seize any remaining consignments of smuggled cannabis.
