The Odisha Crime Branch Cyber Police have arrested a Khurda resident in connection with a massive online investment fraud involving fake trading platforms.
Investigators revealed that cyber fraudsters first contacted the victim via social media and later added him to a WhatsApp group. The victim was lured into investing in apps such as RCL-PMA, FIVEMAX, 5 PAISA V10705, and TRADERS HUB, which promised high and assured returns. Trusting these assurances, he transferred a staggering Rs 2,01,50,000 to multiple bank accounts linked to the fraudsters.
The crackdown, led by Inspector Bijit Kumar Behera, involved analyzing transaction records and digital evidence. Authorities identified and arrested Manoranjan Rout (42), son of Adikanda Rout, residing at Metro Satellite City, Hanspal, Khurda district. Police seized mobile phones, SIM cards, and other incriminating materials from his possession.
The accused was forwarded to SDJM, Bhubaneswar, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Information Technology Act, 2000.
Officials urged citizens to remain cautious of unsolicited investment offers on social media and messaging apps. They advised verifying all opportunities before investing and reporting suspicious activity to the 1930 Cyber Helpline or the nearest police station.
