WARREN, Mich. — A Warren man has been arraigned on a drug charge in connection with a fatal overdose in Clinton Township.
Aron Edwards Jr., 50, appeared in court on Jan. 16 facing one count of delivery of a controlled substance causing death, according to the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office. Bond was set at $50,000 cash or surety, and Edwards must wear a GPS tether if released. He is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 27.
Authorities say that on Sept. 2, 2025, Clinton Township police responded to a Williamson Street home where two people were found unconscious from an apparent overdose. A woman was resuscitated, but 54-year-old Roger Benthal was pronounced dead.
Toxicology reports indicated that Carfentanil, a powerful synthetic opioid, was present in Benthal’s system. Prosecutors said their investigation traced the drugs to Edwards.
“Many people do not realize the serious and often fatal risks they take when using drugs obtained off the streets. Lives can be lost in an instant. Drugs will not be tolerated in Macomb County,” said Macomb County Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido.
Edwards will appear in court again on Jan. 27.
