MIAMI-DADE, Fla. — A Miami-Dade woman has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder following a deadly shooting Wednesday morning, authorities said.

According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded just after 3:30 a.m. to a ShotSpotter alert in the 5100 block of Northwest 29th Avenue. They found a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue and later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released the man’s identity as they attempt to notify next of kin.

The suspect, 29-year-old Janiece Michelle Santamaria, was initially detained at the scene and later admitted to the shooting during questioning after being advised of her Miranda rights. According to the arrest report, the shooting occurred after an argument between Santamaria and the victim in the parking lot. She reportedly returned to the scene after initially going back to her apartment.

Deputies said Santamaria had a gun in her purse, which she acknowledged was the weapon used in the killing. She was taken to the Miami-Dade Homicide Bureau for further questioning.

Santamaria appeared in bond court Thursday, where Judge Mindy Glazer confirmed the charge and appointed a public defender. The judge granted pre-trial detention, and Santamaria is being held without bond. She is scheduled to appear before another judge on Friday.

Detective Theresa Luaces confirmed that the victim died from a gunshot wound. The investigation remains ongoing.
