Mau police arrested Vivek Kashyap in connection with the murder of history-sheeter Rajesh Singh alias Mantu, following a late-night police encounter. Vivek sustained a bullet injury in his leg during the exchange of fire and was admitted to the district hospital. His accomplice, Mrityunjay Rajbhar, was also apprehended.
The case traces back to October 26, when Vivek allegedly shot and killed Rajesh Singh after receiving a contract from the husband of Singh’s lover. Three other accused in the case had been arrested earlier.
According to Mau SP Elamaran G, on a tip-off about the criminals, teams from Ranipur police, the Special Operation Group (SOG), and a surveillance unit cordoned off the Asalpur culvert after midnight. Two suspects on a motorcycle attempted to flee but skidded, fell, and fired at the police. In retaliatory firing, Vivek sustained a leg injury.
During interrogation, Vivek confessed to using the recovered pistol in the murder of Rajesh Singh. Police seized a pistol, country-made revolver, cartridges, mobile phones, and the motorcycle used in the crime. Investigation continues to uncover more details about the murder network.
