Police have yet to arrest Ashok Nudurumli, the main suspect in the killing of 64-year-old Umakant Khot in Morjim, Goa, over a land dispute that occurred on November 9. Khot was allegedly murdered after opposing the construction of a road on his tenanted property.
At a gram sabha held on Sunday, villagers demanded Nudurumli’s immediate arrest. Prior to his death, Khot had reported illegal construction activities to local authorities. Following public pressure, police registered a murder case and arrested three individuals linked to the killing.
The arrested suspects are Lokhesh Swami (43), site supervisor; Rohit Kumar Prajapati (23), earth mover operator; and Vijay Susumman (36), a worker. Authorities have launched a large-scale search for Nudurumli.
Sarpanch Vilas Morje stated, “The panchayat would remove the illegally built road on the disputed land. It’s the land dispute that led to the killing of Khot.” Local leaders have pledged action to prevent illegal land sales and hill cutting in the area.
