Peoria police have arrested a 19-year-old in connection with several gunshots fired from an illegal firearm late Sunday night.
Jamari Ramsey of Peoria faces multiple charges, including unlawful possession of a firearm with a defaced identification, aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon, aggravated assault for discharging a firearm, and unlawful possession of a handgun by a person under 21.
Officers were called around midnight to the intersection of North University and West Nowland after a ShotSpotter alert. Police initially did not find any suspects or victims at the scene.
During the investigation, officers located Ramsey running from the area and tracked him to a residence on West MacQueen Street. Authorities noted the gun involved had a defaced serial number, making it untraceable.
On Monday, Peoria County Associate Judge David Brown ordered Ramsey to remain in custody pending trial, according to online court records.
