In a major crackdown against drug abuse, Punjab police arrested eight drug peddlers under the NDPS Act from different areas in the district, officials said. Large quantities of intoxicant tablets, drug-laced silver paper, lighters, and cash were seized from their possession during the operation.
The arrests were made during patrolling and naka-checking operations in the areas of Bullowal, Mukerian, Dasuya, Chabbewal, Hajipur, and the City police station.
Bullowal: 79 intoxicant tablets seized
Mukerian: Drug-laced paper and a lighter recovered
Dasuya: 53 and 28 tablets seized in two separate cases
Chabbewal: 52 and 55 tablets seized in two cases
Hajipur: 28 tablets recovered
City area: Additional drug-laced materials recovered
The accused have been identified as Ravi Rai, Rajan Kumar alias Raja, Ranjit Singh, Gurpreet Singh alias Sabi, Jitender Singh alias Johnny, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, Rajnish Kumar alias Gungar, and Sunny. Separate cases have been registered against them under the NDPS Act, and further investigations are ongoing to trace the sources of the drugs.
Police officials emphasized that the operation is part of a continuous effort to curb drug abuse in the district and maintain public safety.
